Seahorses ready for feeding

Since 2017, AFNC has been diversifying by investing in aquaculture. Initial candidates are soft corals, mainly Sarcophyton spp, Sinularia spp and the coral sea seahorse (Hippocampus semispinosus).

The methods used for propagation of soft corals are environmentally friendly. They are raised at sea, on tables, in optimal conditions. Once mature, they are brought back into the facilities and maintained for a period of days before export. The coral sea seahorse naturally lives in shallow areas near mangroves and seagrass beds. AFNC offers quality farmed animals, weaned on frozen shrimps. Farmed seahorses are marketed after 8 months and have a beautiful yellow color.

In the future, AFNC intends to continue the development of aquaculture by studying the production of hard coral frags and tridacnid clams.
